Michael D. White, Ph.D., a professor with the ASU School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, talks about what research has found with the use of body-worn cameras by police officers. In use for over a decade in some jurisdictions, body-worn cameras have impacted complaints about officers and the use of force. There are limitations as cameras only record a limited area in front of the officer and can be intentionally or unintentionally turned off. Professor White also discusses how body-worn cameras affect the discretion of officers when it comes to writing a ticket or arresting an individual and how the use of body-worn cameras can inform training practices.
