The crash happened on September 23, 2016 along FM 1942 near Bohemian Hall. Crosby ISD officials said 52 students — both from middle school and high school — were riding home when the driver suddenly swerved to avoid a truck and went into a ditch.
Bus 213 rolled onto its side. The crash sent 14 students and the driver, identified as Brenda Armster, to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, school officials said.
The bus didn't have seatbelts, according to the report.
Armster was a veteran bus driver with 25 years experience in Crosby ISD. On that day she was filling in for the regular driver, officials said.
According to the district's investigation, Armster looked up into the overhead mirror to ask a student about an upcoming stop. Crosby ISD officials said she was distracted and failed to see the truck ahead of her in time to stop. Armster pulled the steering wheel to the right to avoid the collision and went into the ditch.
